Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has his eye on Manchester United transfer target William Carvalho, according to reports in Portugal.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola claims the Sporting Lisbon midfielder is now a target for the Stamford Bridge side. He's been heavily linked with Manchester United for much of the year, but the report suggests Chelsea have now joined their Old Trafford rivals in the race to sign the youngster.

The 21-year-old Angolan-born midfielder is a Portugal under-21 international - he made his first appearance last year - and spent last season on loan in Belgium with Cercle Brugge.

He returned to Portugal this summer and broke into the Sporting team, featuring in all nine games in Liga Sagres so far this season, scoring one goal.

He signed a new Sporting contract that ties him to the club until the summer of 2018, but the report suggests Mourinho may look to bring the talented under-21 international to the Premier League sooner rather than later.

But he'll likely face stiff competition from Manchester United. The Old Trafford club have a strong relationship with Sporting, having signed Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani from the club within the last ten years.

The report claims United have spoken to Sporting about Carvalho, although this late interest from Chelsea could hinder their hopes of a first-option for the youngster.
