Manchester City are considering a move for Porto defender Nicolas Otamendi, according to The Express

City had been linked with a move for Manchester United target Ezequiel Garay, however Manuel Pellegrini now looks ready to make a move for Otamendi.

As reported by O Jogo, City believe Otamendi could prove the more economical option and are ready to beat Chelsea to the signing of the star as they prepare a January bid.

The defender has impressed the Citizens as they were initially monitoring his teammate, therefore Chelsea and City may now go head-to-head for the player's signature.

Otamendi, who has starred for the Argentine national side, is just 25-years-old and would make a welcome addition to either of the Premier League's elite clubs.

It had been suggested that Blues boss Jose Mourinho had already agreed a deal with the defender, however he will now have to try and hold off his Premier League rivals if he is to get his hands on the Argentine.
