Kansas City Chiefs have snapped up free agent Kyle Williams, after the wide receiver was released by the San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday, reports

The 25-year-old follows in the footsteps of pass-catcher A.J. Jenkins, who was shipped from San Francisco to the Arrowhead Stadium in Missouri back in August.

Williams will replace another former 49ers star, Chad Hall, on the Chiefs' roster, after the fellow receiver was released following confirmation of the fourth-year pro's transfer.

After being drafted from Arizona State University in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft, Williams endured an injury plagued debut season with the 49ers, making just five appearances for the California-based franchise.

He went on to play a more important role in the two seasons that followed - 2011 and 2012 - before being waived by San Francisco head coach Jim Harbaugh earlier this month.

Now with another opportunity to impress in the AFC West, Williams will be hoping to forge a good partnership with current Chiefs quarterback - and another old 49ers teammate - Alex Smith.

Kansas City take on Denver Broncos this weekend in NFL Week 11 on Sunday night.
