Tottenham have been given the go-ahead to complete a January move for Inter Milan full-back Alvaro Pereira, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola.

The report claims Andre Villas-Boas will move for the left-back in the winter window as he looks to strengthen his defensive back-line.

Italian paper Gazzetta dello Sport suggests the Uruguayan international will move to Tottenham to secure more first-team football ahead of the World Cup next summer.

The 27-year-old has made just two Serie A starts for Inter this season, and is unlikely to break back into the side under boss Walter Mazzarri.

He featured heavily under Villas-Boas at Porto, helping the Portuguese giants to win the treble under the now-Spurs boss.

Tottenham are looking for reinforcements at left-back, with Danny Rose currently sidelined and Benoit Assou-Ekotto on loan at Queens Park Rangers.

Jan Vertonghen has filed in in the position, but the Belgian international is most effective at centre-half and is keen to return to the role.
