Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has signed a new long-term contract with the club, as confirmed by the Premier League leaders on Saturday afternoon.

There have been reports in recent weeks that an agreement was close, with suggestions that the Poland international would receive £20.8 million over the course of the lucrative new four-year deal.

Although Arsenal did not go into the specifics of the contract, confirmation of the 23-year-old's extended stay at the Emirates Stadium has been made, and Szczesny is clearly grateful to his employers.

"I am very pleased to have signed a new contract. Arsenal is like my family and I’m so happy to be committing my long-term future here," he told the official Arsenal website.

"I’ve been at this Club for over seven years now and I’d just like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their support towards me during my time here.

"Many people have given me amazing support since I arrived as a boy, people like Tony Roberts, who helped my development as a player from a young age.

"I’m so proud to be an Arsenal player and am looking forward to helping our Club towards success in the years to come."

Szczesny has established himself as Arsene Wenger's undoubted first-choice this season, having lost his place briefly last term, and has played a prominent role in propelling the club to the top of the Premier League.

He has kept three clean sheets in the league, including two in succession in recent weeks, and has conceded the joint-third fewest goals in the competition so far in 2013-14.
