Sami Khedira's chances of joining either Manchester United or Chelsea have been all but ruled out, after the midfielder suffered a tear to his anterior cruciate ligament whilst on international duty.

The German midfielder has been linked with an exit from current club Real Madrid, and the Premier League giants have been the clubs mentioned amongst potential destinations.

However Khedira sustained an injury that is likely to rule him out for the long-term during Germany's 1-1 draw with Italy, and despite the fact that he is unhappy at the Bernabeu, there is little chance of anyone taking a gamble on him now.

Speculation has been mounting over exactly how long he will be out for, but early reports suggest is could be as long as up to six months, meaning that he may even struggle to make Germany's World Cup squad for next year.

It's good news for the England national side however, who face the Germans in a friendly at Wembley this week.
