Former Manchester United and Chelsea transfer target Axel Witsel has admitted he is "jealous" of those playing for the two Premier League giants, and says he is desperate for a move to England.

The Belgian made the move to Zenit St. Petersburg in 2012 from Benfica as part of a £64 million double deal alongside Brazilian Hulk having been linked with a host of Premier League clubs.

His suitors were said to include Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City. Some reports claimed that the Red Devils reignited their pursuit of Witsel as they cast their net wide to land a new midfielder in the previous summer transfer window.

However a move failed to materialise for the 24-year-old and he remains in Russia.

Witsel says he is longing for a move to the Premier League, and is jealous of players from both Chelsea and Manchester United for living his dream.

"Indeed, I hope a big club (comes for me)," he told Nieuwsblade.

"I also see that my teammates at teams like Chelsea or Manchester United play, but I did not do badly over there (Russia).

"There will come a day when one of those clubs will show interest and I can leave.

"My preference goes out to the Premier League. Not because half the national team is playing, but because competition is the most viewed."

According to Russian newspaper, Witsel would be available for a move in either January or the summer - but only for a price of €30 million.

Given that Manchester United landed Witsel's international colleague Marouane Fellaini over the summer for £27.5 million, it is unlikely that they will be in the running for his signature.

Chelsea however could reignite their interest, but only if they have a clear out of their midfield department.

The Stamford Bridge based club can currently call on the likes of John Obi-Mikel, Frank Lampard, Ramires and Michael Essien to operate in the heart of midfield.
