Sport is a ruthless game as you have a short spell in the limelight before having to hang up your your proverbial boots.

The average person retires in the later years of their life, whereas sports stars usually retire in their mid to late 30s.

Some even have to retire before their 30s - due to injury, personal reasons or because they simply failed to make the grade.

Reports emerged on Monday that British heavyweight boxer David Haye may have to retire due to a shoulder injury, at the tender age of 33.

On the back of Haye's recent announcement, we have decided to list 10 other stars who have had to ended their professional career earlier than expected.
