Manchester United have entered the race to sign highly-rated Schalke midfielder - and reported Arsenal target - Julian Draxler, reports

The 20-year-old Germany international is attracting interest from a host of top European clubs, with Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Juventus and Chelsea all among his growing list of admirers.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is understood to have made an informal enquiry for the in-demand star during the summer, before being quoted a £40million valuation by Schalke.

However, Manchester United hope to strike a deal for considerably less - just under £30million - almost £10million short of the £38.5million release clause written into his current contract at the Veltins Arena.

David Moyes is understood to have admired Draxler for more than two years, and has had Red Devils scouts watch the midfielder five times already this season, with a view to pressing ahead with a bid to bring him to Old Trafford next summer.

Draxler is believed to favour a move to La Liga, but will consider the idea of joining a Premier League giant, following quotes attributed to him earlier this international week, but is unlikely to even think about a transfer until after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil in the summer.
