Manchester United will not give up in their pursuit if Benfica star Ezequiel Garay, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola.

The source states that despite increasing levels of competition for his signature, and the handover from Sir Alex Ferguson to David Moyes- which was thought to have put paid to any plans for a transfer- Garay still remains very much on the radar of the Premier League champions.

It is believed that the Argentina international is viewed as the ideal replacement for the long-serving Rio Ferdinand, as speculation concerning his retirement at the end of this season has heightened of late.

This week it has also emerged that Italian giants Napoli are ready to move for the 26-year-old, as Rafael Benitez looks to strengthen his squad.

The revelations have prompted rumours that Moyes is preparing a deal which he will offer to Benfica in order to get seize the initiative in the race for Garay's signature.
