Mourinho will not let Chelsea star join Barcelona

Jose Mourinho is not willing to let Chelsea sell Thibaut Courtois to Barcelona, according to A Bola.

The Portuguese newspaper claims Mourinho views Courtois as the ideal long-term replacement for Petr Cech - and will not, under any circumstance, allow Courtois to replace Victor Valdes at the Nou Camp.

The Spain keeper is set to leave Barcelona in the summer as his contract expires at the end of the season, and reports have linked the La Liga giants with a move for the Chelsea stopper.

Currently on loan at Atletico Madrid, Courtois has established himself as one of the best keepers in Spain. But Cech is the undisputed number one at Chelsea, setting up a potential battle for the starting spot in preseason next summer.

Courtois is aware that Mourinho is desperate to keep him at Stamford Bridge - the Blues have offered the Belgian international a new deal that would keep him at the club until 2019 - but reports suggest Courtois is waiting to see what happens with Cech next summer before signing the extension.

And A Bola claims Mourinho is so desperate to keep the Chelsea star from the clutches of Barcelona that he's willing to leave him on the bench until his current contract expires in 2016 rather than sell him to Gerardo Martino's side.

That would almost certainly infuriate Courtois, who has been used to first-team football at Atletico Madrid for the past two-and-a-half seasons.

But Mourinho's past history with Barcelona dictates his refusal to gift the Spanish giants a player who could potentially become the best in the world in his position.
