AS Monaco want to sign Mario Balotelli from AC Milan but face a battle from several interested parties, reports La Repubblica.

The Italian striker had been in sensational form after moving to the San Siro from Manchester City in January scoring 12 goals in 12 starts in the Serie A.

This season has not been so great for the controversial character, however, and a second penalty miss of the season against Genoa last night incited fans.

After the game he took to Twitter to post the cryptic yet suggestive message: "This is the end".

It now appears Monaco are ready to take the striker off of AC Milan's hands in a bid to form one of the most potent attacking forces in Europe.

They currently have Radamel Falcao in their ranks and believe the addition of Balotelli will boost their bid for L'Hexagoal.

Chelsea, who have also been linked with a £60m bid for Falcao, are also interested in bringing Balotelli back to the Premier League where he enjoyed an up and down spell with the Citizens.

Mourinho is a known admirer of the forward having managed the troublesome Italian during his time at Inter Milan and is believed to be considering a €30m move as he looks to patch up his out of sorts strike force.

Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o have all struggled to find the back of the net this season, leaving Mourinho searching for urgent reinforcements.

With both Monaco and Chelsea backed by trigger happy billionaires, the fight for Balotelli's signature could come down to who offers the biggest pay packet.
