It's been a topsy turvy season so far in European football. 

Manchester United have fallen well short of their usual dominance, Arsenal have surprised everyone in rising to the top of the Premier League, Atletico Madrid are soaring ahead of Real in La Liga and Bayern Munich look well on course to become the first side ever to win back to back Champions League trophies.

At the heart of all of this madness is course the players. It's slightly more normal for certain players to see their fortunes rise and fall on a seasonal basis, but there's definitely been some surprisingly inform individuals this year.

We thought with the season rapidly approaching the winter transfer window, it would be a good time to determine who exactly has been the driving force behind their team so far this season.

Using stats from we've assessed the players based on variables such as their goals scored, assists made and appearances for the first-team.

Also taken into consideration, thought not depicted on these slides, is factors such as a player's pass success ratio and shots per game average. 

There's certain individuals that are always going to make this list, but there's the odd curveball included as well.
