The Vancouver Canucks began another road trip Thursday night against the Ottawa Senators.
The Canucks have been struggling of late losing seven of their last eight games. So, the team was in desperate need of a morale boost. And the Canucks got just that through assistant captain Daniel Sedin.
Sedin scored his 300th career goal and added an assist in the Canucks' 5-2 victory over the Senators.
Goaltender Roberto Louongo made 37 saves on the night. Team Captain Henrik Sedin spoke to the media after the game about the importance of starting a road trip off with a win.
“This is a big road trip for us and to start with a win is going to give us a lot of confidence moving forward,” Sedin told reporters. “As a team we played pretty good. The penalty kill did a good job and the powerplay got one too, so overall it was a good game.”
Obviously this team really needed a win - and they fought hard to get it. But the thing that I was most impressed with in this game was that the top line didn’t do all the scoring.
David Booth, Mike Santorelli and Dale Wiese all scored goals. These are forwards that usually just accumulate assists. So, it was nice to see them stepping up and scoring goals. I hope that this victory will give these guys more confidence and the ability to start scoring more consistently.
I believe it was a great effort overall effort by the Canucks and a well deserved victory for them. I can’t wait to see if they’ll be able to build on this victory against the New York Rangers on Saturday.
