It's been a funny old year in terms of high-end transfers in football.

Perhaps the main talking point has of course been Gareth Bale's colossal £85million switch from Tottenham to Real Madrid, but there have been other eye-opening figures banded around as well.

For starters there's the prospect of Lionel Messi moving in a mooted €250million transfer to either Chelsea, Bayern Munich or Real Madrid. 

And while that prospect probably holds about as much reasoning and possibility as Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the Bernabeu to play for a Sunday league team, there are other big-money transfer rumours that have risen to prominence prior to the start of the winter window.

Here we've put together a list of the top ten most overpriced transfer targets in the world at the moment. Backed up by reports from different sources, these switches would surely not prove to be worth their weight in gold in the long-run if they were to come to fruition.
