Arsenal have been boosted by the news that contract discussions between Antonio Sanabria and Barcelona have broken down, and the starlet looks set to leave the club.

According to sources in both Italy and Spain, Barcelona are now consigned to losing one of their brightest young talents having failed to tie him down to a new deal.

It was originally speculated that Arsenal were the favourites to sign the 17-year-old, although the Catalans would try everything in their power to convince him that his future was in Spain.

However now it's being reported that due to Barca's refusal to break their strict policy on handing young stars lucrative deals, Sanabria's agent has refused the proposal send forward by club director Andoni Zubizarreta.

It's now thought that this breakthrough will spark a fight for the starlet's signature, with Roma now being rumoured to stand in pole position.

However Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has a great track record when it comes to the development of rising stars, and given Arsenal's current position in the Premier League it's unlikely the Gunners will be ignored.
