Vancouver Canucks left winger Alex Burrows is set to miss a month of action after taking a puck to the face from a teammate.
The away side were leading the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 in the second quarter, courtesy of two goals from Ryan Kesler, but in the 12th minute, Burrows faced a painful moment.
Chris Tanev went to clear the puck, but it caught Burrows in the jaw, causing the player to fall on the ice, before skating down the tunnel in agony, with blood dripping, but the Canadian returned in the 3rd quarter to play the rest of the game.
"That's what everybody loves about him, that's what he's about." Tortorella commented. "You can tell something was bothering him, watching the game back, but he played and he played really well, and it doesn't surprise me."
The left winger has played in 12 of their last 30 matches, and in his last game against the Hurricanes the forward pulled off three great blocks, including a save on the goal-line to prevent an equaliser in the third quarter.
The Canucks faced another away game against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night, which they won 3-1; Ryan Kesler again scoring twice.
The Canadian's will be hosting their next game against the Phoenix Coyotes, to whom they've already lost to this season, drawing 2-2 after the three quarters, before losing 1-0 in the shoot-out.
Tortorella was confident going into their Nashville encounter, but has belief his side can push on without Burrows.
"We'll miss Burrows in the room a lot that's they type of guy we need, but we need to find a way to get by," he added.
