You won't believe Eli Manning's reason for snubbing the San Diego Chargers


You won't believe it, because nobody knows why - not even Eli Manning!

Unbelievably, the 32-year-old has managed to forget just why he wouldn't play for the San Diego Chargers.

The AFC West outfit had the first pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, and set their sights on the Mississippi superstar to move the franchise forward.

Eli wasn't having it though, digging his feet in alongside his famous father and saying that he wouldn't play for them.

So what did the Chargers do? Draft him with the first pick, of course.

A deal was struck with the New York Giants, who drafted Philip Rivers in the second round, and a trade with future picks was made.

For a man who didn't want to play for the Chargers so badly, it's hard to imagine that he can't remember why. But, that's the line he's going with.

"I just can't remember. It's been 10 years. It slipped my mind," he said, according to

He has two Super Bowl rings; the Chargers do not. Maybe Manning knew something nobody else did. Unsurprisingly, he now likes San Diego. It's a beautiful place, he says. It might have been more beautiful with Manning behind the centre. I doubt he cares.

We'll see just how much he likes it when the Giants play the Bolts this weekend.
