Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will miss this Sunday's must-win clash with the Atlanta Falcons after failing to recover from a broken collarbone in time.

The 30-year-old, who sustained the injury in early November, had returned to limited practice this week – but the Packers' head coach Mike McCarthy has confirmed that he will not play any part in this weekend's fixture.

"Aaron Rodgers is not ready to go," McCarthy told reporters. "Aaron's frustrated. We're in meetings all day together. He's like every other player fighting to get on the field."

Green Bay must win in order to keep their play-off hopes alive, but they have struggled without the talismanic Rodgers in recent weeks.

Matt Flynn will start against the Falcons – and he'll be hoping to inspire the Packers to their first win in six games.

But failure to secure victory this weekend could lead to Green Bay shutting down Rodgers for the remainder of the season.
