Yet again this weekend, fans of the English Premier League were treated to a round of fixtures packed full of surprise, controversy and a plethora of talking points that further underlined the 2013/14 season's status as arguably the most unpredictable campaign in recent memory.

As well as seeing a number of somewhat shocking results that will see the race for the title remain wide open for the foreseeable future, a number of Premier League marksman also further enhanced their claims to win the coveted Golden Boot award - handed to the league's top scorer at the end of every season.

Robin van Persie, the prolific Dutch maestro who attracted widespread controversy last summer after completing a move from Arsenal to Manchester United, has held somewhat of a monopoly on this particular gong in recent years - winning it in each of the past two seasons.

Here, GMS looks at the top ten leading goal scorers in the Premier League this season and therefore the main contenders for the 2013/14 Golden Boot award.
