Napoli will rival Liverpool for the signature of Barcelona defender Martin Montoya, according to talkSPORT.
Montoya's contract at the Nou Camp is due to expire in the summer and an agreement on an extension with Barcelona officials looks far from close.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was looking in to the possibility of signing the 22-year-old to provide competition for Glen Johnson at right-back.
The Anfield club went as far as to send managing director Ian Ayre to Barcelona to discuss a potential January deal for the player.
But Montoya wants to keep his options open for the time being with AC Milan and Inter Milan both thought to be interested in the player as well.
Now there is also believed to be interest from Napoli, with former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez hopeful of swooping in for the player.
Napoli will likely be able to offer Montoya Champions League football next season as they currently sit third in the Serie A table, four points ahead of rivals Inter.
Liverpool, on the other hand, are locked in a tight battle in the Premier League for a top four finish.
They could still finish in the top four but are likely to face stern competition from the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham before the season finishes.
