Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson certainly did not hide his frustration following his side's loss to Baltimore on Sunday, with the reigning MVP labelling Ravens supporters as 'the worst fans in the NFL'.
The Vikings, who have endured a difficult season thus far and sit rock-bottom of the NFC North with a paltry record of 3-9-1, were defeated 29-26 at a snowy M&T Bank Stadium and lost running-back Peterson in the second quarter to a sprained right foot.
They lost this one in truly heartbreaking and extraordinary fashion, with a total of five touchdowns recorded in a little over two minutes at the end of the game.
After Vikings replacement running-back Toby Gerhart had looked to secure the win for the visitors with a impressive 41-yard TD run, the game burst into life in truly incredible style and ended with rookie receiver Marlon Brown taking a nine-yard catch from Joe Flacco to cap off a narrow win.
28-year-old Peterson, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, was clearly mightily ticked off by the way things unfolded in Maryland, with particular ire seemingly reserved for the officials and the Ravens' apparently childish fanbase.
"It definitely stung a lot, especially how the game went down,” he was quoted by the Star Tribune following the game.
"Some of the calls that were made. To me, it was kind of one of those games where it was like, ‘Wow, I can’t believe that was called.'
“Then, to top it off, they got the worst fans in the NFL throwing snowballs the entire fourth quarter like kids. It was a bad feeling, a bad experience," he added.
Sunday's defeat officially ruled the Vikings out of playoff contention and ended a mini-unbeaten run that lasted for just two games.
Now officially playing for nothing but pride, Leslie Frazier's Vikes return home for a clash against LeSean McCoy - who overtook Peterson at the top of the list of most rushing yards after a scintillating display against the Detroit Lions this weekend - the 8-5 Philadelphia Eagles next Sunday.
