Greenpeace activists hijack Real Madrid press conference

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti and defender Pepe were left a little stunned during their pre-match press conference in Denmark after Greenpeace activists hijacked the event.

The duo were answering questions when a banner was slowly lowered behind them – to the delighted of the watching photographers who snapped away as the incident happened.

Pepe tried to continue by answering the next question, but a Champions League official eventually moved in to try and get rid of the banner, which read: ‘Save the Arctic – show Gazprom the red card’.

The Russian natural oil and gas company, which was once majority-owned by Roman Abramovich, is one of the leading sponsors for Europe’s premier club competition.

It’s the second time Greenpeace activists have target the company during a Champions League event, having previously unfurled a banner during Basle’s clash with Schalke – who are sponsored by Gazprom.

Copenhagen will be hoping to avoid such an incident at the Parken Stadium tomorrow night, as Real Madrid look to put a gloss on their Group B campaign.

Los Blancos have already won the group, and the Santiago Bernabeu outfit are set to rest a number of big names for the match.
