Manchester United hope to beat Chelsea to the signing of Atletico Paranaense starlet Mosquito in January, according to the Mirror.
The Brazilian, who lit up the recent FIFA Under-17 World Cup in the UAE, has been valued at £4m by his club side.
Chelsea are prepared to meet that asking price after receiving positive reports from their South American scouts – although neither the Blues nor Manchester United can make a move for the player until January, when he turns 18.
Mosquito scored four goals at the Under-17 World Cup, including a hat-trick against Slovakia in the group stages, but Brazil were knocked out in the quarter-finals after a lengthy penalty shoot-out – in which Mosquito scored – against Mexico.
However, as well as the Premier League giants, European heavyweights Real Madrid and Juventus also have an interest in the youngster.
Of the four interested clubs, Chelsea have the largest Brazilian contingent, although it's believed that Mosquito would be loaned to Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem for the 2014/15 campaign if he opts to join the west London outfit.
