Manchester City are keen on signing former Manchester United defender Gerard Pique, according to French radio station RMC.

Citizens boss Manuel Pellegrini is reportedly keen on bringing the Barcelona centre-back to the Etihad Stadium in January or next summer.

Pique, who played for Manchester City's arch-rivals Manchester United for four years, is yet to discuss a new contract with Barcelona - despite the fact his current deal ends next summer.

The 26-year-old Spain international has appeared 19 times for Barcelona so far this season and is seen as an important member of the Spanish side's first-team squad.

Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino is unlikely to want to see his star defender leave the Camp Nou, however he may decide to cash in on the former Manchester United defender next summer if his side can not agree personal terms with Pique.

Pique could replace Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany, who has been linked with a move to Ligue 1 moneybags Monaco.
