Manchester United made sensational move for Lionel Messi - reports

Manchester United launched an audacious move for Barcelona forward Lionel Messi, according to the Daily Star.

Reports in Spain suggest Barcelona's arch-rivals Real Madrid and French moneybags Paris Saint Germain also tried to lure Messi away from the Camp Nou.

Barcelona superstar Messi decided to reject the aforementioned European giants as he is keen on signing a new deal at the Catalan giants.

Messi joins a long list of players who rejected overtures from Manchester United in the summer if reports emulating from Spain are true.

Manchester United's move for Messi seems bizarre, given the fact that the Argentine international has stated on several occasions that he is happy at Barcelona.

Messi, who has scored 14 goals in 14 matches for Gerardo Martino's side this season, still has four and a half years remaining on his current deal - but is keen on signing a new deal which would see him earn more than Neymar, who is said to be Barcelona's highest earner.
