Arsenal could be set to add another exciting midfielder to their squad, with reports suggesting that they are set to step up their interest in Antoine Griezmann.

According to The Metro, the Real Sociedad star is a long-term target for the Premier League leaders and the club are set to increase their scouting ahead of a potential move when the transfer window re-opens in the new year.

22-year-old Griezmann joined Sociedad in 2009 and has impressed in both domestic and European competition for Jagoba Arrasate's outfit.

After scoring 10 goals in La Liga last season, the former French U21 international has performed admirably during the Spanish side's maiden foray into the Champions League this year.

His encouraging attacking displays have seen Griezmann linked with a move away from Anoeta Stadium, with the likes of Manchester United and Juventus believed to be included in his list of potential suitors.

However, it appears as if Arsenal are eager to sign the player themselves. With the likes of Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Tomas Rosicky all vying for position at the Emirates Stadium, such a pursuit may well mystify certain sections of the Gunners' support.

As has been painfully well-documented in recent weeks, however, it is surely David Moyes and Manchester United who need to be beating off competition from their rivals to ensure that they are able to provide their struggling midfield unit with a much-needed boost.

Although Belgian-born youngster Adnan Januzaj has proved a tremendous positive during an otherwise difficult season, the likes of Nani, Ashley Young, Shinji Kagawa and Tom Cleverley continue to both frustrate and disappoint at Old Trafford.

Griezmann - who reportedly has a release clause of £25 million in his current contract - could be an ideal signing for David Moyes but it appears as if Arsenal may well emerge as frontrunners.
