Carolina Panthers star claims he attended Hogwarts

Carolina Panthers star Greg Hardy may have made one of the most sensational claims in sports history- by saying that he attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizadry.

Doesn't sound familiar? Then you clearly weren't swept up by the Harry Potter novels.

In the magical series Potter attends the wizarding school of Hogwarts, but if NFL star Hardy is to be believed then the school isn't exclusively for those who practise spells and ride-broomsticks.

When the Panthers team gave their name and college to cameras in the build up to the weekend's clash with the New Orleans Saints, the 6ft 4in defensive end replied: "Kraken, Hogwarts".

Now we're not sure whether or not he's a fan of JK Rowling's epic fantasy, but his explanation that he wanted to strike fear into the hearts of the Saints players by comparing himself to a legendary monster of Greek mythology is a little baffling.

It's a Giant Squid that lives at Hogwarts, Greg.
