The Premier League is often praised and vilified as the home of the crunching tackle, a place where heathen English fans cheer the muddy 50-50 challenge as loud as a goal.

Jack Wilshere was roundly criticised for suggesting English players' appetite for the tackle is a national trait to be proud of, in stark contrast to Xabi Alonso's assertion they're only reserved for those who've made a mistake in the first place.

Whatever the respective merits of a meaty challenge, it's clear that the Premier League is more liberal than most other European leagues when it comes down to the nitty gritty.

But even the kindest of referees have to draw the line somewhere, and here we've ranked the top 10 dirtiest Premier League teams by order of ill discipline.
