Luis Suarez opened the scoring on 18 minutes, before Jordan Henderson doubled Liverpool's lead five minutes before half-time.
Spurs were abysmal, and failed to record a single shot on target, and had Brazilian Paulinho sent off on 63 minutes.
Then, Suarez turned on the style, grabbing the assist for John Flanagan's wonderful volley, before scoring in the 84th minute and then turning provider for Raheem Sterling to seal a wonderful attacking performance from Liverpool.
Suarez will be relishing his chance to shine in Brazil at next year's World Cup, as he has already asserted him spectacularly this season as the Premier League's best striker.
In 11 matches, he has scored 17 goals, and claimed four assists after today's mercurial performance.
Suarez is participating in yet another magical season on a personal front, and Liverpool are on course for their best season for a long time.
Today's rout lifts them to second, two points behind leaders Arsenal, and above Chelsea on goal difference. Brendan Rodgers has done a great job so far, and with Basel star Mohamed Salah a target in January, the team will only improve.
On the other hand, Tottenham are playing poorly, to say the least. Spurs had shipped six goals against the unstoppable Manchester City just three weeks earlier, so this result cannot possibly help team morale.
Spurs just have not got off the mark this season, and one suspects it is all down to the departure of a certain very talented Welshman.
Tottenham ploughed £108m into transfers over the summer, yet only Paulinho and defender Vlad Chiriches have really made an impact, with the marquee signings, Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado, having entered the Premier League with little more than a whimper.
Soldado only seems able to score from 12 yards, while Lamela has been a small contributor to Tottenham's season so far.
