Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson has jumped to the defence of quarterback Matthew Stafford following last night’s 18-16 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens.

‘Megatron’ had an off night himself in motor city, with only six receptions and a number of drops on a night when he failed to rack-up over 100-yards.

However, the spotlight has fallen on the QB following the defeat, with the Lions dropping to 7-7 overall and third in the race for the NFC North title.

Stafford threw one touchdown and three interceptions, but Johnson insists it’s the team who must take the blame and not just the man behind centre.

"You can't lay all the blame on him. It's all us, it's everybody. Balls get tips and Stafford had a bunch of crazy stuff like that happen, whether it be receivers falling or a defensive end tips the ball or something like that,” said Johnson, according to

“Matt's playing good. None of this was on Matt. It's on us as a team."

The former Georgia star, who was drafted first overall in 2009, continues to divide opinion at Ford Field. His performances remain inconsistent, despite a number of weapons at his disposal.

Johnson is the pick of the bunch, with 1,449 receiving yards in just 13 games so far this season.
