The planet is under attack from aliens, with a game of football left to protect the human race from invasion.

That’s the scenario dreamed up by the Samsung advertising team, who must have blown the budget to pull together one of the most ambitious campaigns in recent times.

Franz Beckenbauer leads a ‘Galaxy XI’ to face the invaders, with Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi taking the armband for Earth.

His supporting cast is pretty tasty as well, with Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo in the wings. The England striker gets the call for the big game whilst working out in the boxing ring, whilst the Portuguese winger takes time out from a game of volleyball with a string of women to join the ranks.

Radamel Falcao is getting a back tattoo when the men in suits arrive at his door, whilst Chelsea star Oscar and Liverpool loanee Victor Moses are enjoying a game of darts in the pub before they get suited up.

This 232-second advert if quite extraordinary, with Mario Gotze another in the line-up. He’s shown perfecting his skills with a ball and a clay pigeon shooter.

Iker Casillas is swatting flies, Stephan El Shaarawy getting his hair cut and Wu Lei, perhaps most impressively, is meditating with a ball in the air.

Landon Donovan, Aleksandr Kerzhakov and Lee Chung-Yong (yes, the guy at Bolton) are also in the video. They’ll all be representing ‘us’ at some stage against the aliens.

For now, watch the brilliant video at the top of this story…
