Manchester United could be set to sign the man dubbed 'the new Aaron Ramsey', with reports suggesting that the Premier League champions are leading a race of clubs - including rivals Manchester City - for the signing of Josh Brownhill.
According to talkSPORT, the Premier League champions are leading the way to sign the Preston North End starlet - a former Red Devils scholar who spent eight years at the club - who is yet to sign a professional contract at Deepdale and is also reportedly alerting the likes of Tottenham, Fulham and Southampton.
The 17-year-old has made his debut in League One this season, impressing for Simon Grayson's promotion chasers and notching two goals in seven appearances for the Lilywhites.
In apparently pursuing a deal for Brownhill, Manchester United would appear to be admitting that they could have made a mistake in releasing the player from Old Trafford.
Despite this obviously being a player who would presumably not be capable of having an impact for some time in the Premier League, beating close title and indeed geographical rivals Manchester City to his signing would presumably serve as a morale-boost for under pressure boss David Moyes.
City's apparent interest in Brownhill comes as somewhat of a surprise, with the club having hardly developed a reputation for prioritising youth over the power of expensive imports at the Etihad Stadium in recent seasons.
