Is this guy the new LeBron?

Paul George has set himself some lofty targets. MVP, defensive player of the year, Olympic gold medallist, hall of famer - the Indiana Pacers star wants it all. And he's not afraid to compare himself to arguably the greatest of them all, LeBron James.

The Pacers and Miami Heat come face-to-face on Thursday and, injury permitting, George will have the opportunity to prove himself against the current NBA MVP. LeBron twisted his ankle against Utah Jazz on Monday, and is a doubt to meet the Pacers.

If James does not play, however, this offers George an chance to prove just why he has the ability to reach the goals that the former has during his illustrious career, although the Pacers forward doesn't want to be judged as a LeBron wannabe.

"I have goals,” George told Tzvi Twersky of SlamOnline. "I want to be MVP. I want to be Defensive Player of the Year. I want to be First-Team All-NBA.

"I want to be a Gold medalist. I want to be a Hall of Famer. I want to be a Champion. Everything that’s the highest or the greatest that you can do, I want to do that."

He added: "At the end of the day, I want to go down as my own icon, a Paul George, do-everything offensively and defensively type of player. There are a lot of characteristics I have that LeBron does, that T-Mac does, but I want to be my own person and be someone special."

A short-term target for George is to begin showing the form of a potential MVP by being more prolific with the triple-double count, having achieved this only once so far.

"I’ve got to be a better floor general, and I’ve got to get better at being consistent," George continued.

"I took strides in my consistency, but if I want to get where I want to get to, I need to continue being a consistent basketball player. I feel like I can be in the category of LeBron, as far as being a walking triple-double guy."
