Demba Ba | Chelsea
Back in January 2013, Chelsea were looking for another striker to offer competition for Fernando Torres.
One that wouldn't actually 'challenge' Torres in terms of price tag, reputation, etc. So no Cavani or Falcao, but instead Demba Ba.
Which is strange because the Senegalese striker is not good enough to spearhead a Chelsea attack, yet the Blues still felt compelled to spend the £7.4m and hand him a three-and-a-half-year deal.
This plaster-over-the-problem approach has come back to bite the Blues, as Mourinho has continually railed against his strikers' poor finishing.
Ba is part of that problem. At the time it was an odd one, and after one Premier League goal in eight appearances this term, it doesn't look much better.
When Chelsea eventually spend £30m+ on a new striker, which is almost inevitable, this will look even more pointless.
