Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed the club are confident that star striker Luis Suarez will sign a new deal with the club, reports The Express

The Uruguayan striker, who has been in sensational form for the Reds this season, had been expected to depart the Merseyside club this past summer, however Liverpool stood firm and kept their prize asset at the club.

And now, after it was suggested the Anfield outfit are ready to offer the forward a new and improved five year deal to remain at the club, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has insisted the club are confident that they can keep Suarez.

When speaking to reporters, Rodgers said: "I've got every confidence that will be the case.

"I speak to all the players and I think they're happy here. He and I talk about the present.

"We speak about the improvements in his game and how he can become better in the future.

"I don't think there's any doubt.

I think he himself feels he's progressed here as a player."

"Obviously there have been difficulties from Bale leaving Tottenham.

"It shows you that when you have someone with that X-Factor, sometimes eight, nine or 10 players can't replace that.

"That was why we fought like tigers to keep Luis Suarez here because he is a top player, he is a performer."

Suarez has been key to Liverpool's fine start to the season and is currently the Premier League's top scorer.

Rodgers will now be hoping he continues his great form this weekend as the Merseyside outfit can go top of the Premier League if they beat Cardiff City at Anfield on Saturday.

However the real test for Liverpool will come after this weekend's fixture as they take on two of their Premier League rivals away from Merseyside.

Rodgers will take Liverpool to Manchester City on boxing day and Chelsea just three days later.
