Manchester United have shelved plans over a move for Porto centre-back Eliaquim Mangala, as David Moyes has more pressing concerns to address than his defence.

According to the Daily Mail, the Old Trafford boss is keen on the €50million-rated star but feels he must first try to recruit in other areas once the winter window is open.

Manchester United officials have been told to put any Mangala package on hold until the summer, when a decision will be made regarding the future of a number of the more senior centre-backs in the squad, most notably Rio Ferdinand.

Mangala is a powerful, speedy centre-back and has been making a name for himself since joining Porto from Standard Liege in Belgium, though he is now a full France international.

The report from the Mail claims Manchester United believe they must concentrate on bringing in one or two midfielders during January, with priority being on a more creative player to help feed the likes of Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney.
