Atletico Madrid expect £32m bid for Diego Costa

Atletico Madrid are expecting a club to meet the release clause of Diego Costa in the near future, reports Spanish newspaper El Confidencial.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea have all been linked with a move for the Brazil-born striker, who has come of age following the departure of Radamel Falcao at the Vicente Calderon.

So far Costa has scored an impressive 19 goals in 17 games for Atletico Madrid, outscoring the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and helping them to joint top of the table.

The goal machine has a clause of £32m and Atletico believe a club will meet that in the near future.

Arsenal were strongly linked with a move after Arsene Wenger was quoted saying he was impressed with Costa's performances this season.

He told Eurosport: "For me, Atletico Madrid can be a surprise package: they can do the same as Borussia Dortmund did last year. Even if they have lost Falcao, they have a good defence and a very good goalkeeper.

"They have got really good midfield players and of course they have Diego Costa – and this guy is an absolute animal. He would be able to score from anywhere."

The Gunners are in need of reinforcements in attack having relied too heavily on Olivier Giroud for the first half of the season.

Alternatively Manchester United are also believed to be interested in the player as David Moyes looks for reinforcements for the ageing and injured Robin van Persie.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is also thought to hold an interest in Costa after struggling to find a firm number one at Stamford Bridge.

Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto'o and Demba Ba have all failed to impress thus far and Mourinho reportedly sees Costa as the answer to Chelsea's problems up front.
