Liverpool appear as if they are set to pull of a major coup by edging closer towards a move that would be see them sign Mohamed Salah - a player believed to coveted by their fiercest Premier League rivals.
According to the Daily Mirror, the Merseyside outfit - who have enjoyed a hugely positive start to the 2013/14 campaign and find themselves in the very thick of the Premier League title race - are close to agreeing a £7 million fee with FC Basel for the Egyptian winger.
21-year-old Salah, who moved to St. Jakob-Park in April 2012, has been the key man for the Swiss champions in recent months, wowing spectators and pundits alike with several outstanding displays that have fully showcased his talent and electrifying speed.
Indeed, Salah, who has already earned himself quite a reputation on the international stage with a remarkable record of 17 goals in 27 senior caps, will perhaps be best known to English audiences as the man who scored two winning goals for Basel against Chelsea during the group stages of this year's Champions League tournament.
Manchester United, the defending Premier League champions whose beginning to the new season has been immensely difficult under David Moyes, are also believed to hold an interest in Salah.
Earlier this month, rumours suggested that Manchester United were eyeing a £30 million double swoop for Salah and teammate Fabian Schar.
However, reports last week had seen one of Salah's former teammates, Mohamed Zika, suggest that he was '99% sure' that Salah would join Liverpool.
Salah's arrival would surely represent a massive boost for Liverpool's surprisingly strong title bid.
Although Raheem Sterling has done much to impress manager Brendan Rodgers in recent weeks, it seems unlikely and indeed a tad unfair to expect that he will be able to keep up such consistent form all season long.
Summer signings Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto have done little to impress since arriving at Anfield and Liverpool could certainly use another threat coming from the wide areas.
