3. Mo Farah claims double gold at World Athletics Championships
Next comes one of the stars of London 2012 maintaining his place at the top of long distance track running as Mo Farah claimed gold in the 5,000 and 10,000m in Moscow.
For Farah, his win in the 5,000m saw him retain the World Championship gold he won in Daegu in 2011 while his 10,000m triumph was one better than the silver he achieved at the Championships two years prior.
His Moscow successes were far from the only achievements Farah managed this year. He also became the seventh man ever to run sub 3:30 over 1500m as he set a new European record at the Herculis meeting in Monaco running 3:28.81 and sub 13 minutes over 5,000m which he had achieved at the same meeting two years prior.
In July, Farah participated in the London Anniversary Games at the Olympic Stadium where he had won his two gold medals a year prior. This year he ran over a distance of 3,000m, winning with a time 7:36.85.
Finally, the Briton broke the national half-marathon record not once but twice in 2013 first participating in the US city of New Orleans and secondly at the Bupa Great North Run in Newcastle as he completed the 13-mile course in 1:00.10.
