Manchester United boss David Moyes is considering making a £20m offer for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw, according to the Telegraph.

The 18-year-old has been regularly linked with a big-money move away from St Mary's since bursting on to the Premier League scene last season.

United and Chelsea have both been strongly connected with the England Under-21 international, but either would need to offer a substantial sum of money to tempt Saints into selling arguably their best young player.

It's believed that Southampton will resist all offers for the full-back, who penned a five-year deal with the south-coast club in January.

However, United are still keen to test Southampton's resolve, with Moyes determined to sign a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra as well as a new central midfielder.

The former Everton manager attempted to sign a new left-back during the summer transfer window, but missed out on Leighton Baines and Real Madrid's Fabio Coentrao.

And with the 32-year-old Evra's future at Old Trafford currently uncertain, Moyes will hope for better luck in his pursuit of Shaw.
