Football News

The last Raw of 2013 kicked off with CM Punk heading to the ring to tell the audience that whilst he had had an up and down year he cannot say that this year has been his, because 2013 was the year of The Shield.

He then said he had a proposition for The Trio and The Shield interrupted him looking very annoyed. The Best in the World challenged the best member of The Shield to a match tonight causing Dean to step forward but CM Punk declined his offer and said he wanted Seth or Roman, Seth said he was the best and Roman didn’t look to happy about it.

Brad Maddox interrupted to announce CM Punk v Seth Rollins one-on-one momentarily.

CM Punk v Seth Rollins

Whilst an agitated Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns watched from ring side, Seth Rollins faced CM Punk for the first time in a one-on-one match.

Punk gained the upper hand in the early stages but Rollins found an opening when he threw Punk to the outside where he was taunted by Ambrose.

Punk seemed distracted by the other two members of The Shield throughout and they allowed Rollins to grab the upper hand over the best in the world.

Seth tried to hit the GTS on Punk but got to cocky and Punk reversed, hit the running knee and went for the flying elbow but Rollins wisely rolled out the way.

Punk reversed a cross-body into the Anaconda Vice but Ambrose and Reigns distracted him before Seth reversed the GTS into a DDT and could have had the pin but his partners cost him the three count by distracting the referee.

Punk then threw Rollins out on top of The Shield but Seth jumped back over the ropes, straight onto Punks shoulders and in position for the GTS.

The dissention in the ranks of The Shield continues. After the match, Roman came to check on Seth in the ring but Dean sat on the floor outside looking angry.

BACKSTAGE: Brad Maddox was talking to a referee before being interrupted by Triple H and Stephanie, who were in-turn interrupted by Daniel Bryan who asked for Bray Wyatt but Brad said he should earn it by running the gauntlet against the Wyatts tonight.

Raw returned with Stephanie McMahon out to announce the main event for the Royal Rumble, which she announced as Randy Orton v John Cena – Basically a rematch of the unification match.

BACKSTAGE: Stephanie and Triple H are talking about the real champion and The Game said Stephanie’s announcement was good but just wait till they heard his.

Dolph Ziggler v Curtis Axel

Two men who have dropped quite far down the WWE pecking order in 2013, Dolph was World Champion back in April and Curtis was a Heyman guy, but now they are mid-card fillers and tonight they faced off.

Dolph got the advantage early on when Curtis bounced off the second turnbuckle, Curtis did add some offense but was playing the crowd to much and Dolph popped up behind him to deliver the ZigZag for his first win in a long time.

Big E Langston v Fandango (Intercontinental Championship)

After he beat Dolph Ziggler last week to earn his shot Fandango went one-on-one with Big E with the title on the line.

Langston used his strength advantage from the outset and allowed the match to spill to the outside where Fandango made contact with the barricade.

But Fandango focused on Big E’s legs throughout in a way to take the offence away from the champion and hit the DDT followed by his patented leg drop but Langston rolled out of the ring to avoid the pin.

The time outside allowed Big E time to recuperate and he came back with a massive throw, followed by his big splash and the Big Ending to retain his title.

Booker T came out and said that he was gonna play New Year’s spin-a-rooney but was then interrupted by Bad News Barrett who told everyone a new year was not a celebration because it takes us one step closer to the apocalypse.

BACKSTAGE: Damien Sandow was talking to Renee Young about how disrespected he has been all year and that he doesn’t care about his opponent because if he doesn’t win and finish the year on a high he will quit.

Damien Sandow v The Great Khali

WWE fans voted for Khali as Sandow’s opponent on the WWE app, it was a pretty short match as Khali used his usual move set but when the Kahli tried to squeeze his head Sandow countered and Khali headbutted the turnbuckle and got the pin for the win.

Khali argued that after the match his shoulder was up but the referee didn’t see it.
R-Truth v Brodus Clay

Brodus Clay’s heel turn continued as he faced off against R-Truth with Xavier Woods on commentary.

Brodus took the fight to Truth from the outset and seemed like he just wanted to beat him up, Xavier decided part way through that he couldn’t watch any longer and called out The Funkadactyls who distracted Brodus long enough for R-Truth to hit a DDT for the win.

Winner: R-Truth

BACKSTAGE: Triple H was on his way to the ring.

Triple H was out and talked about how epic 2013 was and that 2014 was going to be even better as he welcomed Brock Lesnar back to the WWE.

Lesnar headed to the ring followed by Paul Heyman. Triple H then left the ring and Heyman cut a promo about The Beast being back and that he held no grudges.

Brock then dared anyone to come out and take him on and Mark Henry obliged but Brock beat him down and through the barricade before hitting the F5 on the outside.

The Funkadactyls, The Bella Twins and Eva Marie v Aksana, Summer Rae, Kaitlyn, Rosa Mendes and Alicia Fox

Eva started the match up with Kaitlyn but tagged out to Cameron and Kaitlyn and Alicia seemed to have a disagreement about a tag but the non-total divas used the quick tags to alienate Cameron from her partners.

Nikki was tagged in and took it to Aksana but all the divas invaded the ring and Aksana took advantage of the distraction from Rosa Mendes to get the win over Nikki.

BACKSTAGE: Brad Maddox was talking about old school Raw and all the people he had lined up including Ric Flair.

Daniel Bryan v Luke Harper

Bryan needed to win this match to have a shot at Eric Rowan, he used his speed to his advantage and the crowd were behind him the whole match.

Luke Harper took advantage with the rest of his family at ring side and seemed to have grounded Bryan but he fought back and hit his flip followed by the clotheslines and threw Harper out of the ring.

Bryan attempted the yes lock but Luke powered out and hit the running knee for the win.

Daniel Bryan v Eric Rowan

Rowan ran in and attacked Daniel whilst he was celebrating, Rowan then threw Bryan from the top rope over his head and looked to be injured but Bray distracted Eric and Bryan got the roll up for the win.

Eric attacked Bryan after the match but Luke entered and took Eric out of the ring and Bray climbed in the ring alone to take on Bryan.

Daniel Bryan v Bray Wyatt

Bray entered the ring and turned his back on Bryan, then Harper and Rowan ran in and attacked Bryan whilst Bray watched, Bray then picked up a microphone and told Bryan that this is the end to which Bryan replied “You’re right, you’re always right, no matter how many matches I won, no matter how loud these people cheered for me, you were always right, the machine would never let me win.”

He then declared he was Bray’s and asked to join the family. Bray put his hand out but moved it when Daniel tried to reach, Bray then grabbed Daniel and delivered Sister Abigail before Harper and Rowan dragged his body out of the ring and to the back.

Raw without John Cena and Randy Orton flew by without anyone really noticing, yet again when the big guys aren’t there WWE relies on Daniel Bryan and CM Punk. Yet they don’t feel these guys are the future of the company. But next week we have Roman Reigns v CM Punk to look forward to an Old School Raw.
