As the January transfer window opens for business once more, the mad mid-season scramble for improvement can finally get underway.

Although managers will have attempted to get their squads perfectly balanced during the summer, a lack of depth, a sudden injury crisis or just a simple but often desperate longing for increased strength can entice them back into the market.

With the market finally open, here GMS looks at the 10 most expensive deals in the history of the January transfer window and rates each transfer as either a 'hit' or a 'miss' depending on the success (or lack thereof) enjoyed by the player at that club.

Don't forget to leave your thoughts below. What do you make of these 10 pricey deals? Were they worth it?

Which do you feel were hits and which do you feel were ultimately misses? Perhaps you think we are wrong with our assessment of any of these deals/players?
