Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is keen to reunite with Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso - and will move for the midfielder if he fails to land Inter Milan's Fredy Guarin, according to the Express.

It's reported that Chelsea are the most likely of all the interested English clubs to sign the Spain international, whose contract at the Bernabeu expires in the summer.

The Blues still regard 27-year-old Guarin as their primary transfer target; however, they will need to increase their initial £13m bid in order to sign the Colombian.

Alonso, on the other hand, is five years older than Guarin but would be available for a relatively small fee this month.

The 32-year-old, who plied his trade in the Premier League with Liverpool for five years before leaving for Real Madrid in 2009, has endured an injury-hit season at the Bernabeu and is keen to return to England before calling time on his career.

Alonso's former club Liverpool are also interested in securing his services, while Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is keen, too.
