Manchester United are no longer interested in signing Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic, according to Portuguese journalist Gonçalo Lopes.

Matic, who played just three games for Chelsea during his two-year spell in west London, has been in impressive form for Benfica this season.

Reports had suggested that the Premier League champions had identified Matic as someone who could address their midfield problems.

However Lopes claims current manager David Moyes is not looking to follow up Sir Alex Ferguson's interest in the former Chelsea midfielder.

Manchester United are said to be locked in discussions with Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes over deals to sign Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao and Porto's Eliaquim Mangala - but are not planning on making a move for Serbian international Matic.

The Red Devils have reportedly dropped out of the race to sign Matic, who moved to Benfica as part of the David Luiz deal, leaving Manchester City and Chelsea to compete for his services.
