Chelsea are considering making a move for promising defender Kurt Zouma this month, though Arsenal and Manchester City are also keeping tabs on him.

According to The Guardian, Jose Mourinho is keen on the 19-year-old and is prepared to make a move in the transfer window to fight off interest from the likes of Arsene Wenger and Manuel Pellegrini.

The report claims Arsenal and Manchester City were monitoring Zouma's progress and were expected to make offers come the end of the season, which is being posited as a possible reason for the Stamford Bridge club considering a bid this month.

Mourinho has a number of centre-backs at his disposal but the St Etienne star is tipped for big things and would be a viable long-term option for a starting XI berth with captain John Terry in the latter stages of his career.

Arsenal have only three senior centre-backs in their squad and Wenger's thin squad could be exposed if they pick up a couple of injuries, and Zouma would appear to be a typical Wenger signing.

The France Under-21 star is currently serving out a ten-game suspension for a tackle that broke the leg of Sochaux midfielder Thomas Guerbert.
