Manchester United coach Phil Neville was in Madrid on Sunday to run the rule over Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, according to multiple reports.

The 19-year-old, who is also on the radar of Arsenal and Chelsea, has impressed during his loan spell at Rayo Vallecano this season.

Niguez played the full 90 minutes in Rayo's 1-0 victory over Getafe and put in a mature performance for the La Liga strugglers.

Reports suggest that Neville may have also been watching Rayo defender Alex Galvez, who Borussia Dortmund attempted to sign last summer.

Neville wasn't the only member of Manchester United's coaching staff on scouting duty on Sunday.

David Moyes was photographed at the Serie A match between Juventus and Cagliari - and it's believed he travelled to Italy in order to watch Cagliari defender Davide Astori and Juve's versatile midfielder Arturo Vidal.

The Red Devils recorded their first victory of 2014 on Saturday evening - a 2-0 win over Swansea City at Old Trafford - to end their recent run of poor form.
