Last night's colossal showdown between Portuguese rivals Benfica and Porto attracted a lengthy list of scouts from a surprising set of European scouts, with European heavyweights Arsenal and Chelsea joined by the likes of Ipswich Town and Legia Warsaw at the Stadium of Light last night.

Benfica took on the defending champions with a whopping 33 clubs in attendance in some capacity, all sending scouts to watch a clutch of Europe's brightest young talents play in the pressure-cooker atmosphere of the Estadio da Luz.

Among the teams sending trusted observers were Chelsea, who decided to cast their eye on long-term target and former Blues youngster Nemanja Matic and Porto defensive starlet Eliaquim Mangala.

The match featured a whole host of names consistently mentioned in connection with a move to leading Premier League sides, including Manchester United defensive target Ezequiel Garay Nicola Gaitan.

Garay was on the scoresheet as Benfica secured a 2-0 victory, while Mangala was fortunate to escape punishment for handball inside the penalty area as Porto suffered just their second defeat of the season at the hands of their arch rivals.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City all had official representatives at the game, alongside Championship side Ipswich Town.

Everton, Southampton and West Bromwich Albion completed the Premier League scouting line-up, while Champions League contenders Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid all took the opportunity to make a personal check on potential January transfer targets.

The full list of clubs who sent scouts to the top-of-the table clash in Lisbon was kindly Tweeted by Portuguese football journalist Tom Kundert from his @Portu_Goal account and can be viewed by clicking here.
