Manchester United manager David Moyes has denied claims that his attendance at Sunday's Serie A clash between Cagliari and Juventus will prompt the Red Devils to make a January signing, insisting that the trip to Italy was a holiday and the game came as a happy coincidence.

Moyes took the chance to watch a host of potential transfer targets during a trip to Stadio Sant'Elia, including Juventus midfield trip Paul Pogba, Claudio Marchisio and Arturo Vidal plus young Cagliari defender Davide Astori.

News of Moyes' surprise appearance at the Serie A showdown spread quickly yesterday, but the Scot was quick to refute the possibility that he travelled across Europe to make a personal check on a transfer target.

He is quoted by 101 Great Goals as telling Tuttosport: "I’m here on vacation, I’m not scouting, they are no deals happening."

Red Devils fans will hope that Moyes' attempts to downplay any potential January additions is merely a precautionary tactic, designed to keep expectations that United will sign new players to a minimum.

The shock trip to Sardinia for Moyes came less than 24 hours after guiding United to their first win in four matches, with a 2-0 win over Swansea City secured thanks to goals from Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck.

United continued to be linked with a whole host of players across the continent after a lacklustre start to the campaign, although Moyes looks likely to wait until the summer before chasing transfer targets.
