Manchester United are ready to revive their interest in Athletic Bilbao playmaker Anders Herrera, according to Spanish newspaper AS.

David Moyes came close to signing Herrera on transfer deadline day in the summer but failed to agree the £30m deal in time.

It left Manchester United fighting to sign a marquee player, eventually sealing the signature of Marouane Fellaini instead.

However, creativity in midfield has been hard to come by at Old Trafford this season with Tom Cleverley and Shinji Kagawa failing to find their best form thus far.

United's struggle in the Premier League has convinced Moyes to renew his interest in the 24-year-old, who sent scouts to get an update on the player last weekend.

However, the player himself has previously said he is no longer interested in leaving the Basque club; a fact AS have reiterated in their story.

Athletic are currently fourth in La Liga and are fighting for a Champions League place, meaning they are unlikely to be willing to sell Herrera for less than his €36m release clause.

But Moyes faces paying even more for Herrara if they wait until the summer as his release clause reportedly jumps to €40m in June of this year.

With Manchester United struggling to qualify for the Champions League themselves, it leaves Moyes desperate to make drastic changes to his squad this month.
